The overall goal of the Pioneer Trek is to offer each participant a unique opportunity to experience their “Legacy of Faith” like what the Pioneers emotionally, physically and spiritually experienced when crossing the plains traveling to “Zion”. The result will be a renewed appreciation for the sacrifices made by and the faith of the Pioneers. You are the Pioneers of today and there will be activities that will test you and cause you to reflect upon your own testimony and your personal relationship with the Savior.
President Monson: “The passage of time makes us forget, and we lose our appreciation for those who walked the path of pain, leaving behind a tear-marked trail of nameless graves. But what of today’s challenge? Are there no rocky roads to travel, no rugged mountains to climb, no trails to blaze, no rivers to ford? or is there a very real need today for that pioneer spirit to guide us away from the dangers that threaten our society? Can we somehow find the courage and that steadfastness of purpose which characterized the pioneers of a former generation? Can you and I, in actual fact, be pioneers today? A dictionary defines a pioneer as “one who goes before, showing others the way to follow.” Oh, how the world needs pioneers today!
Jeffrey R. Holland: “In the gospel of Jesus Christ you have help from both sides of the veil and you must never forget that when disappointment and discouragement strikes and they will–you remember and never forget that if our eyes should be opened we could see horses and chariots of fire as far as the eye can see riding at reckless speed to come to our protection. They will always be there, these armies of heaven, in defense of Abraham’s seed.”
